What kind of music do you play?

This question always gets on my nerves.

I hate labeling things. I have all these random cd's and vhs tapes sitting at my apartment and I have no idea what is what.

When we label things, we know what they are. Our preconceived ideas of what things are come up. It simply makes things easier.

Unfortunately, people have different ideas of what each label means. Labeling also saves us the trouble of delving deeper into what we are naming. It simply is this or that.

Music however, always seems to escape definition. People hear different things from the same pieces of music. What one may call house, another person may call techno.

Are you a romantic?

Advances in technology are changing how people express themselves creatively. There are more creative tools available at a cheaper cost. Hard to find music is available after a few keystrokes. DJ-ing, which was once a secret art only available to the dedicated who wanted to learn, is now an easily accessible artform.

People can dj from their ipods and laptops with no experience whatsoever.

So what makes a good DJ?
-An extensive record collection?
-Technical skills?
-Who you do drugs with?
-Being on the "real world"?
-Being the son of a celebrity?
-A cool DJ name and presence?
